Learn how to select the correct replacement or accessory awning poles for your Springbar tent. Understand material differences, compatibility, and when to upgrade.

Quick answer

Choose aluminum awning poles for lighter weight and rust resistance, or galvanized steel poles for extra durability in rough conditions. Every Springbar tent model with an awning accepts both types, so your choice depends on how you camp.

Understanding your Springbar's pole setup

Springbar tents use a patented frame system where the main structure is integrated into the tent body. The poles you may need to buy separately are awning poles — the support poles that hold up the awning or vestibule. These are sold individually, so you can replace just one if it bends or breaks.

USA-made Springbar tents come standard with aluminum awning poles. Highline and Classic Jack series tents come standard with galvanized steel awning poles. Both materials work with any Springbar tent that has an awning, so you can mix and match if you have a preference.

Aluminum vs. galvanized steel: what to consider

Aluminum awning poles are lighter and won't rust, making them a good choice for backpackers or anyone who packs their tent in and out frequently. They are strong enough for most conditions but can bend under extreme wind or heavy snow loads.

Galvanized steel awning poles are heavier but more resistant to bending. They are a better fit for base camps, long-term setups, or locations where you expect strong winds or heavy precipitation. The trade-off is added weight and the potential for rust if the galvanized coating gets scratched.

When to replace your awning poles

Replace an awning pole if it is bent, cracked, or has a broken ferrule (the connecting joint). A bent pole will not hold the awning taut, leading to sagging fabric that can catch wind or collect water. Inspect poles after every trip, especially if you camp in windy areas.

You do not need to replace poles that are simply dirty or have minor surface rust on steel — clean them with a mild abrasive pad and apply a light coat of oil to protect the coating. If the rust is deep or flaking, replace the pole.

Decision rules for choosing Springbar tent poles

  • Match the pole type to your camping style: If you backpack or move camp frequently, choose aluminum for lighter weight. If you set up a base camp for a week or more, galvanized steel adds durability. Aluminum for mobility; steel for stability.
  • Check compatibility before buying: All Springbar tents with an awning accept both aluminum and steel awning poles. Leisure Ports also use the same poles. You can mix materials within a single tent. No need to match the original material — any awning pole works.
  • Replace individual poles, not the whole set: Awning poles are sold individually. If one pole is bent or rusted, you only need to replace that one. Keep a spare on hand for peace of mind. Buy singles to save money and reduce waste.

Pole options for your Springbar
